2017 Report Card

After almost four years of data collection and intensive research, the NAACP Boston Branch released “Equity, Access, and Opportunity: the Walsh Administration’s Efforts and Results,” a report card assessment of the administration. The nearly 200-page document assesses the efforts of the administration to improve conditions within communities of color focusing on four areas of importance highlighted by then-candidate Walsh in 2013: (1) Economic Development; (2) Education; (3) Public Safety; and (4) Staffing Diversity. The report was generated by dozens of volunteers and topical experts who spent over 1000+ hours culling through data provided to the Branch by the administration, news reports, and the responses of more than eighty individuals and organization representatives who contributed information and their perspectives through a series of small group forums.

The idea for the report card arose out of a series of mayoral debates in 2013 hosted by The Inclusive Boston Alliance (TIBA), a consortium of dedicated individuals and organizations. Following these events, members of TIBA declared that they would hold the winner of the mayoral election accountable via a report card on their progress in fulfilling campaign promises. Lack of resources and bandwidth delayed the completion of the project until now.
